I don’t typically make two trips to Seymour, Indiana for Sandhill Crane viewing, but since they were still hanging around and I wanted a road trip of some sort, we (Miles and me) were off to Seymour to see more cranes!

Instead of Interstate 65, took US highways to go north so I could visit some places I hadn’t yet been to. First stop along the way was at Ashland Park in Clarksville, Indiana. I always like to stop there for across the river photos of Louisville.

From there it was off to US 31 heading north towards the Lewis & Clark Parkway. I am always in for Lewis & Clark stuff. This took us through Sellersburg, Indiana. All we saw was a Water Tower. Just north of Sellersburg is the unincorporated community of Speed. Yep! Another unique-named town to add to my ever growing list. Speed got its name from businessman James B. Speed who built a cement mill in the area. There was a Post Office there from 1922 to 1963. Nowadays there is not much else.

From Speed it was straight up US 31 to US 50 and then to Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge outside of Seymour. I have written about it before. On this visit there was plenty of snow and some cold conditions. But it provided a different view for me. A couple of the lakes were iced over and I could see Sandhill Cranes walking on the ice. I had hoped to see some beavers or other wildlife, but really only got to see Sandhill Cranes. After driving around the NWR, I then drove around the south of Seymour area looking for flocks. I always have fun doing this. Following are some of the photos I got.

Coming home it was just a zip down Interstate 65 and then on to Interstate 64 in Louisville to head east back to Lexington.
