Had a fun time interviewing with Mick Jeffries, the long-time and award-winning host of WRFL-FM Radio "Trivial Thursdays" this morning.  In case you missed it, here is an MP3 Audio file of the broadcast, courtesy of WRFL and Mick...edited by yours truly.  Also in the studio with us was Leif Erickson.  Great to meet and mingle with these two.  Mick even surprised me by playing an Antsy McClain song during the interview.  It is included below. PRHBTN 2018: Five More Murals Now Decorate Lexington

Backroads Discoveries, Graffiti Walls, Kentucky, Less Beaten Paths Books, Murals, Quirky Things, Roadside Attractions, Selfies, Street Art, Wall Art
Chalk up another successful year of artwork for John and Jessica Winters and the PRHBTN team of volunteers and donors.  This year brought in four artists from diverse places to add more color and variety to ever-growing mural collection in Lexington, Kentucky.  In fact, this year had some huge and lovely works completed. More than most years, I was able to follow some of the artists and track their work from beginning to end to see how they do it.  It was fascinating. Heading north out of Keller, Texas on US 287 you can enjoy a scenic ride and make your way into the town of Decatur, Texas.  Named after naval hero Stephen Decatur, the town was originally set up in 1856 and eventually was a stopover for ranchers and herders on the Chisholm Trail. [caption id="attachment_21052" align="aligncenter" width="525"] The old Eighter from Decatur Sign[/caption] By 1882, the railway came into Decatur from Fort Worth.  It was apparently at that time a gambling railway worker was talking about a female from Decatur and coined the phrase an "Eighter from Decatur," which has stuck around ever since. [caption id="attachment_21050" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Welcome to Decatur sign[/caption] Today, the peaceful little town still draws traffic from ranchers and railway folk, but also from tourists trying to…

Hey friends - I spent most of Labor Day weekend trying to finish up my SECOND BOOK! All about Quirky and Offbeat Roadside Attractions, this book will be about 150 pages and have over 80 full color photos. It looks like the book will retail for about $25. It will be paperback with glossy paper.  I hope you can let me know via a comment or instant message on Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn if you are interested. I had to cut the book down from 320 pages due to the prohibitive cost (yes, I have a start on Book 3 already!!!).  I have inserted the cover (above) and four sample images (below) so you can see what the book will be like. (Thanks to Antsy McClain for the artwork on the cover.) As my…

[caption id="attachment_20739" align="alignleft" width="300"] A view of downtown Cincinnati from atop the Carew Tower[/caption] Had a wonderful (but hot) Father's Day 2018.  My wife asked me what I wanted to do, and I said I wanted to take a trip to Cincinnati and visit the downtown area for fun.  Cincinnati is one of those cities that has a great skyline to photograph. So, before we went, I looked for places that we could get good views of Cincinnati.  In the past, I have taken shots from across the river in Newport, KY and a couple of other spots, but I wanted something more unique. [caption id="attachment_20704" align="aligncenter" width="333"] Cincinnati skyline as seen from Devou Park in Covington, KY.
